Accessibility
Last updated: October 30, 2026. We want everyone to be able to use this site, including the checker. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we've done
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "Skip to content" link.
- Headings follow a logical order, and the main menu is a labeled navigation region with a menu button that announces whether it's open.
- The checker's result is a live region, so a screen reader announces the verdict when a check finishes. The address field has a label and a description of what the check does.
- Nothing is conveyed by color alone. Every green, amber or red step also says "Answers", "Slow", "Rejected" and so on in words, and the live board says "Up" or "Not answering" next to each dot.
- Text and background colors meet AA contrast. Status words use darker shades of the green, red and amber so they pass at small sizes.
- Pages reflow at 400% zoom and on screens 320 pixels wide without sideways scrolling.
- Animation (the steps lighting up, the pulse on the check button, the loading shimmer on the board) stops when your system asks for reduced motion.
- There are no images that carry information; the logo is described, and the example alerts and status page are labeled as examples.
What we know isn't perfect
- The live board refreshes itself every minute. The count of services not answering is announced; the twenty tiles are not re-announced, to avoid noise. The "Check again" button refreshes on demand.
- The result's share link is copied with a button; in browsers that don't allow clipboard access, the button selects the link text for you to copy by hand.
- The FAQ uses native disclosure widgets; some older browsers don't announce their open state.
