Privacy

When you check a website
- The address you type is sent to our server as part of the request (/api/check?url=…). We don't write it to a database, a spreadsheet or a log of our own.
- The result is cached on Cloudflare's network for 60 seconds, keyed by the site name only, so a popular check isn't repeated. It isn't tied to you.
- Cloudflare, which runs our servers, keeps standard request logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, time) for a short period for security and traffic reporting. We see counts, not individual visitors.
- To stop abuse, our code keeps a short in-memory count of checks per connection address for about a minute. It's not stored.
- The site you check sees a request from Cloudflare's network with our user agent, "DownInfoBot/1.0 (+https://downinfo.com/)", not your address.
Your history of checks
The "your last checks" list on the home page is stored in your own browser (localStorage), on your device only. We can't see it. The Clear button deletes it, and so does clearing site data in your browser.
Share links
A result link (downinfo.com/?site=example.com) contains the site name. Anyone you send it to gets a fresh check of that site. Don't put a private hostname in one.
The live board
The board asks twenty public services from our servers. Nothing about you is sent to those services; the page in your browser only fetches our cached result.
Cookies and analytics
None. No cookies, no analytics scripts, no advertising trackers, no fonts or scripts loaded from third parties. The site's own fonts and code are served from downinfo.com.
If you contact us
The contact form opens your own email app; nothing is sent through this site. If you email, text or call, we keep your name, your contact details, the websites you mention and the correspondence, so we can reply and, if you joined the early list, tell you when monitoring is ready. We keep early-list contacts until the service launches and for 12 months after we last hear from you, then delete them. Email us to be removed sooner.
When monitoring launches
The paid service will hold the addresses you ask us to watch, the check results for them, the contact details for alerts, and billing records through our payment processor. We'll publish the details on this page before the service runs, and email early-list contacts.
Who else handles data
Cloudflare (hosting, DNS lookups, request logs, the 60-second cache), our email provider for correspondence, and for the paid service, text-message and payment providers. We don't sell personal information or share it for advertising. We'd give information to someone else only if the law required it, and we'd tell you if we were allowed to.
Your choices
Ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you by emailing us. We reply within 30 days.
Children
The site is for anyone, but the paid service is for businesses. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this notice, we update the date at the top, and email early-list contacts before a change that affects them applies.
